Job Description:
The Department of African and African Diaspora Studies invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Associate Professor (tenured), with a background in Science and Medicine within the Social Sciences and with a preference for a specialization in Africa, to start Fall 2012. We are seeking outstanding scholars with a strong background in Science and Medicine (public health, medical anthropology, pharmacy, bioethics, history of race in science and medicine) within the Social Sciences (Economics, Education, Environment, Geography, Law, Medicine, Sociology, Political Science, and Psychology), with a preference for specialists in African Studies. We are especially interested in outstanding candidates who focus on critical theories in an intersectionality of race, gender, sexuality, and social class. The selected candidate must have a Ph.D. in hand, and will be expected to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, develop a strong research program, demonstrate evidence of successful research productivity, direct graduate research and exhibit a commitment to service to the department, college, and university. Assistant Professor applicants should be able to demonstrate a successful publishing and research trajectory. Associate Professor applicants should demonstrate an established reputation of high quality research and scholarly production. All applicants should have a solid record as an effective classroom teacher at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Salary is competitive and dependent on qualifications and experience.
