The Corcoran Department of History at the University of Virginia invites applications for a tenure-track, full-time Assistant Professorship, in Middle Eastern/North African History from the 15th to the 19th century. Anticipated start date is August 25, 2012. For appointment at the Assistant Professor level, applicants must hold a Ph.D. by the time of appointment. Candidates with ABD status may be considered for the position, with the title of Acting Assistant Professor.
The successful applicant will be required to:
Conduct research in at least one major language of the region (Arabic, Ottoman Turkish, or Persian)
Demonstrate excellence in scholarship
Demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate teaching
Demonstrate an interest in building a graduate program in Middle Eastern history.
Contribute to the University's growing graduate program in Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies.
