The Wisconsin Historical Society (Public History Division) seeks a managing editor for its history publishing program. The Society publishes four to eight books per year; the quarterly Wisconsin Magazine of History; and several newsletters. The Managing Editor manages the design and production of book, magazine, and digital products for the Society. The position's primary responsibility is to ensure that the Society Presss publications are produced on time, within budgets, and to the highest standards. The Managing Editor reports to the Editorial Director and works with the Editorial Director to develop a plan for each project. The managing editor then coordinates with authors, in-house staff, freelancers, and vendors to achieve that plan. This work includes creating editorial and production schedules for all Press publications (including the Wisconsin Magazine of History) and directing and assisting staff members in meeting these schedules. Starting salary: $16.86 to $22.32/hr depending on qualifications, with generous health and retirement benefits. A 6-month probationary period is required. Application deadline, November 8, 2002.
