The Department of History, Political Science and Philosophy at the University of South Carolina Aiken invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in American History to 1865, beginning August 2012. The department seeks broadly trained candidates prepared to teach the first half of the American history survey as well as upper level courses in U.S. History, and upper-division courses in constitutional history. Candidate should not duplicate existing departmental strengths (Atlantic World, African Diaspora, Southern, PanIndian cultures), and may also offer upper-division courses in Colonial America, Early National History, or American Religious History (as appropriate to the successful candidate’s specialization). Candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching, potential for productive scholarship, and have completed a Ph.D. in History at the time of application. Responsibilities include a 4/4 teaching load, including three sections of the U.S. History Survey to 1865, and one upper-division course related to the candidate’s field of specialization. Also, the candidate will engage in student advisement, research and productive scholarship, as well as service to the university and to the broader community.
