British Empire. The History Department of the College of Charleston invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in the history of the British Empire with the ability to teach British history. The time period, subfield, and regional specialization are open, although the Asian subcontinent is preferred. The successful candidate will teach upper-level courses in both modern British imperial and British history, and survey courses in pre-modern and/or modern history. He or she will be able to contribute to interdisciplinary programs, such as Asian Studies, British Studies, the Carolina Lowcountry and Atlantic World Program, European Studies, International Studies, Jewish Studies, Urban Studies, and/or Women’s and Gender Studies. Candidates must have, or expect to complete, a Ph.D. in History before August 2012. The College of Charleston, a public liberal arts college, is the nation’s thirteenth oldest institution of higher learning and is located on an historic campus in the heart of Charleston, South Carolina.
