Job Description
- The Department of History seeks to hire a teacher/scholar whose interests focus on the history of colonial Latin America and Mexico in a global context. In addition to teaching the Department's survey courses in Latin American/Mexican history, and either American or World History, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the Department's thematic strengths at the graduate level. Those strengths currently include Gender, Race and Class; Power, Culture and ideology; Colonialism and Nationalism.
Minimum Qualifications
- Earned PhD in History or allied interdisciplinary field, which should be completed by August 2011.
Preferred Qualifications
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness at the college/university level. Prior experience teaching the survey and/or specific topical courses in Latin American, Mexican, or especially Borderlands history. Evidence of scholarship and publication in the areas of designated expertise, especially recent theoretical scholarship about Borderlands (or Latin American or Mexico) in a global context. Publications, a dissertation, or other scholarship demonstrating engagement with recent theoretical scholarship on Latin America/Mexico in a global context. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to and ability to work effectively within an increasingly diverse university community are strongly desired.
