The Department of Humanities, Mount Royal University, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Ancient/Medieval history at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective 15 August 2011. This position is open to all areas of Ancient/Medieval History broadly defined, with a preference for those candidates with a focus on cultural/social History. A completed Ph.D. and experience in undergraduate teaching is required.
The successful applicant must be qualified to teach introductory courses such as Europe to 1500, as well as senior courses in their area of expertise. Candidates should also be willing to participate in course and program development.
Mount Royal University is seeking candidates with a focus on teaching and learning, although this position also provides the opportunity for participation in research. New faculty members are hired into one of two work patterns. The teaching/scholarship/service pattern has a focus on teaching with the requirement that the faculty member be involved in a research program as well as service to the Mount Royal community. The teaching/service pattern has a focus on teaching and service only. There is an option to change work patterns after tenure. This position is in the teaching/scholarship/service pattern, so it is expected that the successful candidate will have a record of scholarly accomplishment, and that they will maintain an active research programme.
