|Institution Type:||College / University|
|Location:||Georgia, United States|
The History Department at the University of Georgia is recruiting a distinguished historian of the United States to be the inaugural Amanda and Greg Gregory Chair in the Civil War Era, 1840-1880. Funded with a one million dollar endowment, this Chair will bring to Georgia a scholar with an outstanding national reputation to continue and build upon the department's legacy of strength in the study of nineteenth-century America. The Gregory Chair will join a strong and active faculty, including not only a critical mass of Americanists working on the Civil War era, but also scholars specializing in other diverse, but overlapping, fields. The holder of the Gregory Chair will find a rich intellectual environment to deepen and extend his or her work, a talented pool of doctoral students, and highly-accomplished undergraduate students; a superb library with significant archival holdings on the Civil War Era; and a supportive community of alumni and donors who invest in the work of the department. The Gregory Chair will be hired at the rank of full professor.
