The United States Military Academy at West Point is accepting applications for a position as Assistant Professor in the Department of History. We seek an historian with research expertise in either Air and Naval Warfare or the History of Science and Technology (preferably both); expertise in a non-Western field is desirable. Applicants must have the ability to teach the two-semester military history core course, History of the Military Art. The initial appointment, which will begin on or about 1 July 2011, is a full-time, three-year appointment with the possibility of renewal. Applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria: 1) academic accomplishment (a Ph.D. in History by time of appointment is preferred), 2) demonstrated scholarly potential, 3) demonstrated ability to teach History of the Military Art as well as the Air and Naval Warfare and/or the Science and Technology courses, 4) demonstrated proficiency in active-learning instruction, and 5) demonstrated potential to contribute to cadet development outside of the classroom.
