Description of Program:
We offer programs emphasizing outstanding research scholarship and innovative pedagogy in Literary Studies; Rhetoric and Composition; Creative Writing; Professional Writing; Media, Cinema and Digital Studies; and Modern Studies. Our undergraduate and graduate courses have as their common ground the English language, its effective use as a means of written communication, and the literature it has generated over many centuries and in many geographical areas. We therefore recognize and will continue to respond to the international and cross-cultural importance of the English language, both as a means of communication in world affairs and as the literary voice of diverse peoples. Concurrently, we embrace that digital culture is transforming these traditional commitments, enriching the possibilities for both scholarship and teaching.
Job Summary:
The Department of English at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in the field of Transnational American Literature and Culture, Post WWII.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications: PhD or ABD (PhD to be completed by August 2012) in English or closely related field; dissertation focus on transnational American literature and culture since 1945; evidence of record and of promise in scholarly research and publication.
Preferred Qualifications:
Secondary expertise in literary and cultural theory as demonstrated by course work, teaching, and/or scholarly writing is desired.
Knowledge of gender studies/queer theory
Knowledge of transnational literature
Knowledge of postmodern fiction/narrative
Knowledge of digital literature and culture
Successful achievement of peer-reviewed publication in scholarly journals and/or academic presses
