Modern Spanish-speaking Latin America. The History Department of the College of Charleston invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in modern Spanish-speaking Latin American history. Theme and geographical region post-1800 are open and include the Spanish-speaking Caribbean. The successful applicant will teach pre-modern or modern general education classes, the modern half of the survey of Latin American history, and other upper division courses reflecting his/her areas of interest and training. In addition, the successful applicant will be expected to contribute to interdisciplinary studies, such as Latin American and Caribbean Studies, the Program in the Carolina Lowcountry and the Atlantic World, African Studies, Urban Studies, or Women’s and Gender Studies. The successful applicant must have completed all the requirements for a Ph.D. in History before August 2011. The College maintains study abroad programs in Cuba, Chile, and Spain and study abroad opportunities exist for students in Brazil and Argentina. The College of Charleston, a public liberal arts college, is the nation’s thirteenth oldest institution of higher learning and is located on an historic campus in the heart of Charleston, South Carolina.
