Nineteenth Century US History. The History Department at the University of Chicago invites applications for an assistant professor, tenure-track position in the field of nineteenth century US history, to begin Autumn Quarter 2011. The area of specialization is open, although the Department encourages candidates to apply who are working on culture, the visual arts, law, economics or governance. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in hand by September 1, 2011.
Consideration of applications will begin on November 1, 2010. We plan to interview a short list of candidates at the American Historical Association meeting in January 2011. Applications are required to include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a dissertation abstract, and a chapter-length writing sample. In addition, three recommendation letters are also required.
