Assistant Professor, 20th Century Germany/Eastern Europe

Twentieth-Century Central and Eastern Europe.  The Department of History at Furman University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in twentieth-century Europe, with a research specialization in German or Eastern European history.  A secondary field in Russian history is preferred, but other areas of expertise will be seriously considered.  Applicants should have completed their Ph.D. by the start of employment in August 2011.  Furman operates on a semester system, with a five-course teaching load for the year.  The successful candidate will normally teach a freshman seminar, two modern European surveys, and two upper-level courses in her or his fields of specialization.  The department values excellence in teaching and active scholarship.  Please send a letter of application, a curriculum vitae, a writing sample, course syllabi, and three letters of recommendation to: Dr. John Barrington, Chair, Department of History, Furman University, Greenville, SC 29613.  Applications received by November 1, 2010 are assured full consideration.  Selected candidates will be interviewed at the AHA in Boston.  Salary and benefits are competitive.  Furman is an EOE employer and is committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty.  Applicants from under-represented groups are encouraged to apply.
