The History Department of Reed College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Modern European History (19th-20th century, excluding Germany) and Western Humanities. In addition to courses in one’s own area, the appointee will also teach in a team-taught interdisciplinary Humanities course. Teaching responsibilities will include three history courses per year, advising yearlong senior theses, and initial assignment in Modern European Humanities (http://academic.reed.edu/humanities/hum220/index.html). The Reed History Department particularly stresses the teaching of critical historical reading and writing.
We encourage applications from candidates with interests in one or more of the following: international relations and diplomacy, war and society, labor and industrialization, migration and citizenship, and Europe and the world.
Applicants should have the Ph.D. in hand by August 2011. We expect to make the appointment at the Assistant Professor level but will consider applications from more senior candidates.
