United States Military Academy, West Point, New York seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor (Latin America):
The United States Military Academy at West Point, a premier undergraduate institution, is accepting applications for a position as Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of History. We are looking for a historian with a research specialty in Latin America and the ability to teach survey-level courses in that area, as well as our freshman Western Civilization course. All teaching is done in classes of about 16 students. The successful candidate should demonstrate proficiency in discussion-based methods of instruction that encourage active learning. The appointment, which will begin on or about July 6, 2010, is for three years and is not renewable. Candidates for this position will be evaluated according to the following factors: (i) Advanced degree (Ph.D. strongly preferred) in history, with specialization in Latin America; (ii) Ability to teach the courses listed above; (iii) Mastery of student-centered teaching and active-learning methods; (iv) Dedication to student development; (v) Demonstrated scholarly potential.
