Position: Tenure Track Position-Assistant and/or Associate Professor of History
Effective Date: August 23, 2010
●Ph.D. in History, or in a closely related field by the time of appointment .
●Specialization in Indian Ocean/World, with experience in Africa, Middle East, South or Southeast Asia.
●Evidence of potential for excellence in effective teaching at the university/college level, including both undergraduate and graduate courses.
●Evidence of potential for an ongoing, successful record of scholarly research and publication, commensurate with professional level.
●Ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
●Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university/college level.
●Experience in teaching World History; preference for Trade, Empires, and/or pre-1900 period.
●Ability to teach courses in Africa, Middle East, South or Southeast Asia.
●Administrative experience in an academic or non-governmental organization (NGO) setting.
●Additional qualifications as appropriate.
●Teach 3-4 courses per semester, from undergraduate to graduate (M.A.) in History, as well as other courses dependent upon the department’s requirements and candidate’s specialties and interests.
●Participate in curriculum development.
●Engage in a systematic program of scholarship resulting in conference presentations and publication.
●Advise and direct students accordingly.
●Provide service to department, college, university, and community committees as appropriate.
●Participate in development of College programs and initiatives.
●Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Probable beginning salary range: $ 62,000-67,000 annually (depending on rank and experience).
