Position is located primarily at the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC), Intelligence Department (J2), Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii. Incumbent is the subject matter expert conducting studies and interpreting military history in the context of US servicemen and civilians who remain unaccompanied-for as a result of past conflicts. Acts as the subject matter expert for his/her operational area of assignment, which will be made by the direct supervisor and will focus on a specific region or chronology of a particular conflict. In support of the identification process, the researcher prepares detailed historical and analytical reports concerning the loss of US servicemen and actions taken to recover them. Travels to archival storage facilities to conduct research on combat operations, the status and locations of Prisoners of War, prior attempts by the USG to retrieve unaccounted-for service members, and other relevant research topics. Conducts interviews with veterans of past wars and with other parties who may have information pertaining to the loss of US service members. May have to travel to conduct field investigations.
