The history department at Providence College, a Catholic four-year liberal arts institution conducted under the auspices of the Dominican friars, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in 20th-century U.S. history beginning in fall 2009. Competence for teaching in the Development of Western Civilization Program is required. A specialty in one of the following areas is preferred: political, urban, labor, or environmental. PhD (or imminent receipt) required. Providence College seeks candidates who can affirm and contribute to its mission. Letter of application, c.v., official undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and three letters of reference (unofficial photocopies of transcripts or letters of reference are unacceptable) should be sent by October 22, 2008, to Dr. Matthew Dowling, Chair, American Search Committee, Dept. of History, Providence College, Providence, RI 02918-0001. The letter of application should indicate whether or not you will be attending the AHA annual meeting. An AA/EOE, the college especially encourages the applications of women and persons of color.
