Ambrose-Hesseltine Chair in U.S. Military History
The Department of History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks applicants for the Ambrose-Hesseltine Chair in U.S. Military History beginning August 2009. This is an open-ranked search; recent Ph.D.s, assistant, associate, and full professors are strongly encouraged to apply. We seek candidates offering promise or evidence of excellence as scholars and instructors, combining a background in traditional military history with innovative research and teaching interests.
Candidates must hold the Ph. D. prior to start of appointment. For full consideration applications must be received by October 31, 2008 which include a letter of application, a curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, two sample syllabi (one for a survey course addressing the full span of US military history from colonial times to the present, and another for an advanced or topical course), and a writing sample (not to exceed 50 pages). If the writing sample is a section of a larger book manuscript or dissertation, please include an abstract and table of contents or a statement of how the writing sample fits in with the larger project.
