CFP for SCMS (Society for Cinema and Media Studies) Annual Conference in Montreal: Representations of leadership and power in film and media.

This panel welcomes papers concerned with representations of empowerment and leadership in television, film and other forms of media.
Papers in this panel will consider the ways characters in leadership positions are portrayed. Cultural constructions of empowerment and leadership and how these portrayals address spectators are just some of the many topics in this broadly conceived panel.
Other topics or modes of inquiry may include but are not limited to: - the female anti-hero - negotiations of power among characters - differences in representations of power due to race and class - audience reception to female empowerment in the media - types of female empowerment seen in media such as sexual empowerment - Empowerment at the intersection of violence - How the portrayal of women in the media is having an adverse effect on women in leadership positions - Gender gap: male empowerment and leadership vs. female empowerment and leadership as portrayed in media.
