As part of the of the Interdisciplinary Institute for Culture of Early Modern History (IKFN) at the University of Osnabrück and the Herzog August Library in Wolfenbüttel (HAB) jointly implemented structured, funded by the Lower Saxony Ministry for Science and Culture, doctoral program knowledge storage and reasoning Arsenal. to award for young scientists and young researchers with a very good degree in the field of early modern period.
The joint doctoral program is based on the insight that a library is more than a collection of books. One can consider a library as an almost endless history of ideas reservoir in which stability and change of values and controversies of past eras are included. The scholarship holders will be given the opportunity, in her thesis from an interdisciplinary point of the dynamic elements ("living library" / "organisme vivant") to analyze a static only at first glance institution like the library of the early modern period.
At the doctoral program at the following IKFN and the HAB disciplines represented are involved: Early Modern History, Literature (German, Romance, Latin Studies, English Studies), Evang. and Catholic theology, art history, musicology. Interested parties from the said range of subjects are explicitly encouraged to apply.
Location of the college is Osnabrück, the University shall provide the necessary jobs. Some block events will take place at the HAB. While the proposed research in Wolfenbüttel HAB may mediate the placement of doctoral students in the guest houses the library.
The scholarships are for three years and grants amounted to 1400 Euro per month plus 100 euros (material resources, books, etc.), in addition eventual families and child care allowances, and assistance with project-related conference visits and research trips.

The candidates are asked to sketch on about two pages their dissertation projects. The University of Osnabrück strives to increase the proportion of women and therefore calls expressly qualified women to apply.
