Motion in Pictures: Dance in Film, Television, and Digital Media
This panel investigates the intersection of two art forms: dance and the moving image. The topic spectrum is broad, comprising silent cinema, American film musical, avant garde film, reality TV, Bollywood, YouTube, et al. The clear affinity that dance and film have with each other offers unique insights into the place of spectacle, language, and affect in cinema. The goal of this panel is to gain a deeper understanding of the kinship of dance and the moving image and to forge new theoretical directions for dancefilm/screendance.
