Assessing the domestic architecture, its form, function, its furnishings & fittings, who designed it, who built it, who lived in it, the conference aims to provide a forum for the public, professionals and academics to come to a better understanding of the 16th century houses of the merchant classes. In addition the conference will address the changes in town fortifications necessitated by the introduction of heavy artillery, the advances in artillery, small arms and armour as well as siege warfare. As a town with an incredibly rich medieval and early modern infrastructure, Kilmallock provides the perfect back-drop to look at this important transitional period between the medieval and modern world.
