Delta State University is now accepting proposals for workshops, papers, presentations, and clinics for The International Conference on the Blues, which will be held October 6-7, 2014.
Topics of general interest to scholars and enthusiasts are welcome: African American musical tradition and its influence on American music and culture; the Blues; folklore; history; ethnicity; and the Delta. Topics of an interdisciplinary nature are also encouraged.
You are invited to submit proposals for paper presentations, lecture-performances, panels, performances, workshops, and poster sessions. Offers to serve as moderators are also welcome. Papers will be twenty minutes in length, with an additional ten minutes for discussion, and should address a general audience. Independent scholars and Blues enthusiasts are welcome to submit proposals. Proposals must be submitted via www.deltastate.edu/blues.
Papers are particularly invited from young and developing scholars (graduate students, recent masters and doctoral graduates, and junior faculty). To encourage young scholars to attend, the registration fee will be reduced if registration is received before August 1, 2014. A prize will be awarded to the outstanding young scholar paper.
Juke Joint on the Stage: This sampler concert/jam session will include local musicians, visitors, and scholars. To be considered for the performance, please send a recent recording by mp3 (preferred method) to email@example.com or mail a CD to Don Allan Mitchell, Department of Languages and Literature, DSU Box 3215, Cleveland, MS 38733.
Lightnin’ Talk Competition: A select number of presenters will have their conference fees refunded if their lightning talk is accepted for presentation. (A lightning talk is a short, entertaining presentation on a single topic, designed for a general audience. 5 minutes maximum.)
