The Coalition for Western Women's History Irene Ledesma Prize
The Irene Ledesma Prize is awarded to a Ph.D. graduate student to support research in western women’s and gender history. The $1,000 Prize supports travel to collections or other research expenses related to the histories of women and gender in the North American West. Applicants must be enrolled in a Ph.D. program and be current members of the Coalition of Western Women’s History at the time of application.
To apply, submit one copy of the following (as a single PDF file) to each member of the committee: CV, abrief description of the research project and an explanation of how the prize funds would support the research, a line-item budget, and a letter of support from the student’s dissertation advisor (to be sent separately).
Proposals will be evaluated according to the following criteria: significance of the overall project, applicant’s knowledge of primary sources, connection to broader theoretical/historiographical issues, applicant’s ability to address issues of gender and/or women’s history in the North American West, and proposed budget details and research agenda.
