I wanted to draw your attention to an attractive program. It is an intermediate/advanced German and Polish language program at the European University Viadrina from 9 June-19 July. The European University is located on the German-Polish border, and is one hour from archives in Berlin, as well as two hours from archives in Poznan.
The summer school is designed to be small (max. 10 students for each language course), and is for post-docs, PhD candidates, MA students, and advanced BA students. It offers one year’s worth of language study in six weeks.
In addition, advanced seminars in German, Polish and English will be offered for those interested in earning a semester’s worth of advanced study at the graduate level. In the evenings, over two dozen professors, post-docs and graduates from North America, England, and Europe have been invited to deliver guest lectures. The program has made many elements optional, so that students can travel to archives to do research on their (BA, MA, or PhD) theses during free time.
Best of all, the entire cost of the program is 300EUR, thanks to grants from the European University Viadrina and the Kelso Institute. A cursory look at any language program in Poland, Germany or the US will reveal how inexpensive this program is.
