The Prize consists of an annual award of $50,000, plus a bronze St. Gaudens bust of Lincoln. The Prize is given for the finest scholarly work on the era of the American Civil War. Preference will be given to work on Lincoln, the Civil War soldier, and work that addresses the literate general public. In rare instances, the Prize may go to a work of fiction, poetry, drama, film, essay, article or beyond.
Books that are first editions and are published from January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2013 qualify for the Prize.
Submissions should be submitted on the publishing date and must be received in Gettysburg by November 1, 2013. There will be no exceptions. When books are not bound by the end of October, though they will carry a 2013 publishing date, publishers need to submit three (3) galleys by the November 1 deadline, with books to follow.
