Call for Chapter - Volume on African American and Latino/a activism
"Beyond Civil Rights: African American and Latino/a Activism in the Twentieth Century United States"
I am looking for an additional chapter for an edited collection that examines the activism(s) of blacks and Latino/as in the US within a comparative perspective. Chapters currently explore a wide variety of activism across the US, focus on coalition-building and cooperative civil rights efforts, as well as the underpinnings of the tension and conflict that sometimes plagued these communities. The book is under contract with the University of Georgia Press.
I need a chapter that focuses on African American and Cuban/Cuban American relations. While south Florida is an obvious choice, I would welcome a contribution that focuses on these communities outside of the Miami-Dade County area. The proposed essay should be 20-25 pages in length, excluding notes.
Please send a 250-500 word proposal and a current cv to my contact information below. The publisher expects submission of the manuscript in late December 2013.
