On Thursday 24 October 2003, The Institute for Commonwealth Studies will host a conference entitled ‘The USA in the Caribbean: Thirty Years after American Fury’. This conference is supported by the Political Studies Association, the Institute of Commonwealth Studies (University of London) and The Round Table: The Commonwealth Journal of International Affairs.
Confirmed speakers include prominent diplomats who were involved in the ‘Grenada Crisis’ and academics who have written about aspects of the event. The keynote speaker will be the former Secretary-General of the British Commonwealth (1975-1990) Sir Shridath "Sonny" Ramphal.
This conference seeks to discuss Why it happened? What really happened? and What happened next?
A feature of the conference will be the publication of the Grenada Witness Seminar transcripts which includes interviews with some of the decision-makers at the time.
