We are calling for proposals for a special Health, Science, and Society (HSS) session for the 2014 Latin American Studies Association Congress. The HSS Section is able to sponsor one special event at the 2014 LASA Congress to be held from May 21-24, 2014 in Chicago, Illinois. This event may be a conventional panel, roundtable, or guest lecture on topics of interest to our section. Panels should be organized according to established LASA criteria (a panel chair, a maximum of five papers, and a discussant). We are especially interested in panels that discuss gender and sexuality in relation to health and/or science.
Because our Section must submit its special session by the general LASA program submission deadline of September 3rd, we must receive your proposals no later than August 20th so that Section officers have adequate time to evaluate and rank them. Please send inquiries and proposals to Section Co-Chair Rebecca Hester (firstname.lastname@example.org.Only complete proposals will be considered.
Please note that, because this is a section-sponsored event, all participants—including panel chairs, paper presenters, and discussants—must be dues-paying members of the HSS Section as of August 23, 2013. The only exception would be an invited speaker at a Section-sponsored guest lecture, who might possibly be a current or former government official or a representative of a nongovernmental organization.
We will make every effort to notify applicants of final Section decisions several days prior to the general LASA submission deadline so that members who have not been selected to participate in a Section-sponsored event may still submit their proposals to the regular LASA program committee for evaluation by track chairs.
