The Illinois State Historical Society seeks proposals for the 2014 Illinois History Symposium on the theme "The Civil War, Part III: Copperheads, Contraband, and the Rebirth of Freedom," to be held in Charleston, Illinois, March 27-30, 2014. Papers, panels, exhibits, and other proposals will be considered by the Symposium Committee if received by October 15, 2013. The symposium coincides with the 150th anniversary of the Charleston (Illinois) Copperhead Riot, the presidential election of 1864, and the 13th Amendment (2015). Prospective presenters should submit a 200-word proposal and a CV for consideration to: email@example.com.
The symposium, which will be held in part on the campus of Eastern Illinois University, is open to scholars, academics, students, and to amateur and professional historians.
