Kalamazoo-Session Two: "Medieval Monarchy and the Church: Conflict and Cooperation"
This panel examines the critical relationship between rulers and the church, both in their own tenitories and with lhe hierarchy of the Church itself. This session could include papers on ecclesiastical patronage, investiture, royal and papal relations, royal involvement in heresy trials and inquisitorial proceedings, comparisons of royal and church courts and archbishops and bishops who served in the highest echelons of royal councils.
Leeds-Theme: Emperors & Empresses
Given the overarching theme of ‘Empire’ for Leeds 2014, we are aiming to contruct one or more panels which examine the lives, roles, duties and perceptions of Emperors and Empresses. This can include those who had the title, such as Byzantine and Holy Roman imperial rulers, those who aspired to these titles or those who used or claimed imperial authority.
If you are interested in participating in our sessions at Kalamazoo and/or Leeds 2014, please send a proposal of approximately 250 words to us by September 1, 2013. Proposals can be sent to the RSN address email@example.com or to the organizer, Dr. Ellie Woodacre at Ellie.Woodacre@winchester.ac.uk.
