Call for papers, Islam and Islamist Political Movements in sub-Saharan Africa
Call for Papers Date:
The Italian Journal of Studies on Political Islam – the scientific publication of the Italian Centre of Studies on Political Islam (CISIP) – accepts proposals for its issue No 2(two) for the year 2013.
The monographic topic the No 2 Issue aims to cover is:
Islam and Islamist political movements in sub-‐Saharan Africa.
The issue will explore in depth Islamist political movements across different areas of the African continent south of the Sahara. Hence, paper proposals on Countries and regions generally associated with the arab-‐islamic Maghreb will not be taken into consideration. Conversely, paper proposals covering Islamist political movements in East Africa, the Horn of Africa, West Africa, the Gulf of Guinea and southern Africa are very much welcomed.
The issue is intended to explore some specific topics including, but not limited to, the following:
− Analysis of Islamist parties and movements across different countries in sub-‐Saharan Africa.
− The role played by Islamist parties and movements within specific areas of sub-‐Saharan Africa and within their respective political systems.
− Comparative profiles of the processes of democratization experienced by different political systems in sub-‐Saharan Africa, with particular reference to Islamist parties and movements.
− Peculiarities of jihadism in sub-‐Saharan Africa and its connections with trans-‐national movements.
Authors interested in submitting a paper proposal should send an abstract of no more than 400 words and a short author's biography to the following address: email@example.com.
The deadline for submissions is July 28, 2013.
Please note that only abstracts in English and Italian language will be accepted.
Accepted authors will berequested to send their papers for peer-‐review by September 30, 2013.
Drafts should not exceed 5,000 words.
The final publication of the Issue No. 2 is expected for December 2013.
