September 20-22, 2013
I am looking to create a panel on changing demographics in cities and/or suburbs.
My paper explores the steps that the New York City suburb of South Orange, New Jersey took to intentionally integrate, from 1963 to 1999. As a result of these efforts, South Orange transformed from a racially homogenous community into its current status as a community that is 60% white and 28% African-American.
Your paper could explore any facet of the changes in demographics in American metropolitan regions that have taken place over the past 40 or 50 years, such as immigration to suburbs and Southern cities and African-Americans living in suburbs with greater frequency.
If interested, please submit a 1-page abstract and CV by Friday, March 24 to firstname.lastname@example.org.
