The main topic of this year's conference will be "Reflections on Basque returned migration and exile".
"Euskal Herria Mugaz Gaindi" is a series of annual workshops promoted by the Web of Researchers of Basque Presence in the World (www.euskosare.org). Among the objectives of these workshops, we aim to create spaces for the exchange of the latest researchs and visions on the history, evolution and present-day situation of Basque communities in the World. Previous workshops have been held in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Montevideo, Bayonne, Bakesfield CA, Arrasate-Mondragon, Boise ID and Donostia-San Sebastian. 2013's edition will be hosted by the University of Deusto in Bilbao, Basque Country, on June 18 and 19. There will be also a virtual seminar, through the website of Euskosare, in which people that cannot attend phisically the workshop will presente their papers and participated in the discussions.
Proposals of papers must be addressed to the organization of the Workshop before March 31st, 2013, including the personal data of the proposers (name, address, affiliation and email), a title and an abstract of no more than 200 words.
In this edition, we will focus and reflect on the study of return migration, from a theoretical and methodological point of view, as well as by the presentation of case studies linked to past processes of migration and exile from the Basque Country abroad. The workshop will maintain an interedisciplinary vision on the main topic. Moreover, the concept of "return migration" goes beyond the strict limits of those migrants that actually came back to the homeland, this including other linked phenomena like the exchange of money, ideas and stereotypes from the host country to the homeland. What remained when migrants and exiles returned? How were they received back at home? What kind of elements were introduced in the home societies by the means of returned people? What kind of effect did return migration have on the local and familial economies?...
