The conference, organized by the Early Modern History Department of the University of Barcelona, marks the anniversaries of 1713 and 1813, years when Catalonia was at war: the War of Spanish Succession and the War of Independence or del Francés brought significant political and institutional changes such as the Nova Planta in Catalonia, and in the rest of the Crown of Aragon, and the Constitución de Cádiz and the end of the Old Regime in Spain. The Conference will be structured around five themes: ‘War and Society’, ‘Peace treaties and the diplomatic balance’, ‘The postwar period’, ‘Cultural and scientific developments’, ‘Propaganda, images, memory’.

The authors of the accepted proposals will be asked to submit a paper of up to 15 pages by 15 October 2013. Papers will be reviewed by the conference committee to be published in vol. 33 of Pedralbes. Revista d’Història Moderna in 2013.
