Call for articles; 'Fear and History'; History Journal Groniek
Groniek is an academic historical journal which publishes quarterly on different theme in history. The journal is edited by history students of the University of Groningen.
In the summer of 2013 we will dedicate an issue on the theme history and fear. In this issue the implications of fear on the making and the writing of history are explored. The exploration will have a board horizon: raging from theoretical history to interdisciplinary history.
We request contributions on the following topics.
1.Censorship and history. How does censorship affect historical research in dictatorial regimes?
2.The implications of psychological findings on the effects of fear on behavior for history. How should historians deal with fearful historical actors in their research?
3.The 19th century fear of mass-democracy evoked by scientific work in the field of sociology and mass-psychology. What was the relation between the progress made in sociology and mass-psychology and the fear amongst the elite for the survival of democracy in a time of democratization?
4.A micro study on early modern Geneva. To what extent was this exceptional society characterized by fear?
Please send in a pilot before February 28th if you are interested in contributing to this issue. The deadline for the article is May 27th.
The contributions have to be approximately 4000 words long. Please contact the editorial board for more information and more specific guidelines.
