H-Net Elections, 2005

Joe Ferreira
Candidate Statement

H-Net has been a meaningful part of my professional life since I first subscribed to H-High-S in 1996 and, later, accepted appointment as Review Editor and the List Co-Editor. I have been privileged to be a part of the growth and outreach of H-High-S over the past seven years. In that time, I also became more involved in centralized H-Net matters, as chair of the first ad-hoc pre-Constitution Elections Committee and later as an elected member of the Council. During my service, I have participated in the discussion and debate over the direction and growth of H-Net and have tried to represent the interests of the pre-collegiate community as well as that of H-Net as a whole. It has been an enlightening experience and one which I am proud to have been a part of for the past several years.

My work as appointed Assistant HNET STAFF editor under both Sara Tucker and Melanie Shell-Weiss has aided greatly in my preparation for taking this step to running for the elected HNET-STAFF Editor post. Having had good leadership in this post to guide me, I feel that I can do the job that is required. Following in the footsteps of both Sara and Melanie is, unquestionably, a humbling progression, but one which I believe myself ready to make. In doing so, I want to continue their excellent work in maintaining clear and open communications within the HNET STAFF community and to insure to the best of my ability that public discussion within this community remains cordial, professional and generates solutions to challenges and genuine progress for H-Net. If elected, I promise to continue, as I have in the past, to promote this organization and its advancement of our profession.
