A ONE-DAY PRE-APSA SEMINAR FOR ADVANCED GRADUATE STUDENTS
The Women and Politics Research Section of APSA held a One-Day Pre-APSA Seminar on "Frontiers of Women and Politics Research" at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University on Wednesday 2nd September 1998. The seminar was designed for advanced graduate students interested in developing research and teaching expertise in the fields of women and politics, gendered political analysis, and feminist theory.
The seminar focused on a series of issues. What are the most exciting new approaches currently being developed to analyze the relationship between gender, public policy and the state? What are the cutting-edge theories, which help us to understand women's activism, transforming politics from the grassroots community up to the highest offices of state? What are the newest innovations reconceptualizing feminist theory and methodology? How are scholars in this sub-field challenging established notions of women's role in the international order? How are women organizing through political parties, interest groups and social movements? These, and many other questions, were considered by leading scholars and participants at this seminar. The format of the meeting is designed to be highly interactive, with small groups allowing participants to learn about each other's work and develop professional networks.
The purpose of the seminar was to support those who may teach women and politics; to extend expertise in women and politics research; and to provide an arena for graduate students to network and discuss research questions with experts specializing in women and politics
The seminar was sponsored by APSA's Women and Politics Research Section in conjunction with the Women's Leadership Initiative and the Women and Public Policy Program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
