Dear colleague,

The National Committee of Russian Historians, Institute of World History, Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), invites you to take part in an International Conference on “The Grand Alliance” convened by the Russian Association of Second World War Historians in collaboration with its American counterpart, the World War Two Studies Association, on the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of the 11 June 1942 Roosevelt-Molotov agreement, to be held in Moscow June 6-7, 2002. In addition to individual panels on political, economic, diplomatic, intelligence and military issues there will be a round-table discussion on the history of the Grand Alliance, with particular consideration of recent research and of relevant source materials that have become available only during the past two decades. Presentations and discussion will be conducted in English or in Russian with English translation.

Participants who have not made other arrangements are expected to arrive in Moscow on Wednesday, 5 June 2002, and to depart on Sunday, 9 June 2002. The registration fee of $400.00 for each participant covers the cost of four nights in the hotel, transportation from and to the airport, breakfasts and lunches and a cultural program. The cost for each accompanying person is also $400.00. (A one-day excursion to St. Petersburg on Saturday, June 8, may be arranged for an additional $500.00 per person.)

Please inform us not later than 15 January 2002 if you accept our invitation to this conference, providing the title of your paper, if you wish to present one, and/or the topics that you would like to discuss in the panels and in the concluding round-table discussion. When informing us of your acceptance, please provide also the data necessary for a visa (full name and work address, citizenship, date of birth, passport number and the dates and issue of expiration) and let us know whether you wish to participate in the excursion to St. Petersburg.
