A glance at today's issue of "Nature": The magazine's monthly
"Briefing" section looks at the Internet -- how people use it
today, and what its use will mean in the future. Two articles
focus on the explosion in the number of people using the
Internet, and how the increased volume is causing virtual traffic
jams, especially when users try to connect to computers in other
countries. Another article discusses how the Internet is
expanding and enhancing many types of scientific research, and
how scientists are using the World-Wide Web to help manage
collaborative projects. Two short pieces describe efforts by
countries in Africa, East Asia, and Central and South America to
establish Internet connections. (The magazine may be found at
your library or newsstand.)
