An excellent source of material on the religious right is the
newspaper Washington Times. This is an "ordinary" daily paper in
Washington DC with a strong right-wing tilt in news and
editorials. What makes it especially valuable: it is available on
cd-rom (for ibm-PCs) very cheaply. The cdrom contains the
complete text for the last 5 years (no photos), plus an excellent
search engine that makes it possible to find any bit of
information in ten seconds, and download to a word processor.
The Wayzata cdrom company published a "10-pack" of cdroms called
the Treasure Pack, including lots of stuff on fonts, computer
industry news, and the TIMES. All 10 cd's for only $30 is an
example of the bargains possible via cd-rom. In the US, Tiger
Software carries it. 800-888-4437.
I strongly recommend that libraries purchase a copy.
I used the Washington Times cd-rom extensively in my article on
"The Culture Wars, 1965-1995: A Historian's Map." Journal of
Social History (Oct 1995), 17-36.
