Japan-America Student Conference (JASC) Announcement #1
************************************************************

Subject: 48th Japan-America Student Conference (JASC), A CONFERENCE
HELD ENTIRELY IN ENGLISH!!!! WE ARE LOOKING TO RECRUIT MOTIVATED
AMERICAN STUDENTS FOR NEXT SUMMER'S CONFERENCE.

Theme: Accepting Personal Responsibility to Strengthen Our Global Partnership

In 1934, a small group of Japanese university students initiated the
first JASC in Tokyo because they were concerned about the deteriorating
relations between the two nations and felt an urgent need to promote
mutual understanding. In its 61st year of existence, it is the oldest
cultural and educational program between the US and Japan. The Conference
believes students are both active observers of and participants in
international diplomacy, and citizens charged with the responsibility of
guidng the future of our societies.

JASC will reconvene for the 48th time next summer from July 21 through
August 21. It will start in St. Louis, move to Montana, and end in
Washington, D.C. The program will consist of: thematic discussion groups,
special forums, and workshops. There is also another big aspect of the
conference: establishing long lasting friendships and trust with one
another, and learning about oneself.

was a participant in the 47th Conference. It was the steepest learning
curve I have experienced. I hardly slept during the one month conference
because one month is such a short time to get to know all 80 delegates of
the conference. Nevertheless, I am still in touch with great many of
them, and I am more than excited to help organize and participate in next
year's conference as an executive member.
