Subj: ROADSIGN: general information list for the American Studies Crossroads
Project
[ROADSIGN is a general information list for the American Studies Crossroads
Project, (director, Randy Bass) an international curriculum and technology
project sponsored by the American Studies Association and funded by major
grants from the US Department of Education's Fund for the Improvement of
Post-Secondary Education (FIPSE) and the Annenberg/CPB Project, as well
as by the American Studies program at Georgetown University.
ROADSIGN is a moderated list; its main purpose is to distribute
information about the Crossroads Project and to serve as a
listening-post for suggestions and feedback about the Project's
many activities. The list is open to everyone; to join, send a message to
LISTSERV@LISTSERV.GEORGETOWN.EDU, leave your subject line empty, and
include as your message this text:
SUB ROADSIGN firstname lastname
(where firstname lastname = your own first and last name)
This message gives notice of two major new additions to the Crossroads Website.
First, all materials supplied so far to Crossroads by the American Studies
Association have been consolidated into an ASA Home Page. The URL for the
ASA home page is:
http://www.georgetown.edu/crossroads/asainfo.html
On this page you will find links to substantial ASA materials, such as:
ASA Officers, 1995-1996
ASA Constitution
ASA Newsletter
ASA Prizes
ASA Publications Information
Guide to Graduate Programs in American Studies
Guide for Reviewing American Studies Programs
American Studies Dissertation Abstracts, 1986-1995
These files are best viewed with Netscape 1.2 or better (downloadable
from http://cgi.netscape.com/comprod/products/navigator/index.html)
The full text of the March 1996 ASA Newsletter has also been added.
The address is:
http://www.georgetown.edu/crossroads/asanews
The web version of the Newsletter contains sections devoted to the
following subjects:
ASA Announcements & Reports
ASA Prize Notices
Fulbright Chairs Program for 1997-1998
Opportunities & Resources
American Studies Crossroads Project
Regional Chapters News
Connections Newsletter, March 1996
There are also two essays, Prospecting American Studies in Moscow, by
Tatiana Venediktova, Moscow University; and Letter to the Editor: Political
Diversity at the Annual Meeting, Wilcolm E.Washburn, Smithsonian Institution.
Internal links have been added wherever possible to all materials. Thus,
for example, all the email addresses in Connections are "hot," meaning
that you can send email to people who have submitted postings to Connections
while you are browsing the Newsletter; similar links have been added to
the section on Fulbrights and to portions of the Resources & Opportunities
section, and there is a link from the Regional Chapters News to the
program of the 1996 MAASA Conference in St. Louis, MO.
Any feedback on the format and presentation of these materials is most
welcome.
