Founded by Dr. Peter Rollins in the 1970s, the Southwest/Texas PCA/ACA has sought to foster the interdisciplinary study of our region through its fascinating legacy of literary, historical, visual, and media images. Since then the organization, affiliated with the National Popular and American Culture Associations founded by Ray B. Browne, has grown to include a wide range of offerings bringing participants together from across the nation and internationally. A core value of the organization is the belief that understanding of national concerns begins with regional and local learning. We particularly invite scholars to share their perspectives on American life in the diverse region of the Southwest.

Mission

The Southwest/Texas PCA/ACA aims to promote an innovative and nontraditional academic movement in Humanities and Social Sciences, to provide an outlet for scholars, writers, and others interested in the popular culture, to share ideas in a professional atmosphere, and to have papers presented at meetings.

History

The Southwest/Texas PCA/ACA, which first met in conjunction with the Filmathon at Oklahoma State University in the early 70s, began to meet on its own in the late 80s. Over the years, the group continued to grow from its early grassroots organizing. Click here to learn a little about each year the organization has met.
