Race Relations Within the Civil Rights Movement

Subject: race relations within movement
I just re-signed up on the list so I admit I don't know if this has been discussed in the last year:
I've just started organizing an oral history project on the civil rights movement in Louisville, KY for the University of Louisvilles' oral history center. In some of my preliminary discussions with participants an interesting theme arose...the issue of race relations within the movement (louisville had perhaps more than average white participation and earlier, and some pretty significant white individuals who were leaders as well. There seems to have been some interesting interracial coalitions AND divisions over the years). I'd like to explore this further. Besides the mississippi freedom summer stuff, has anyone written about this in other local movements? are there suggestions for things I should read? models to look at? any input would be greatly appreciated.
