H-SKAND is a daily Internet discussion forum focused on scholarly topics in Scandinavian history as well as the national histories of the Scandinavian countries. We would like to provide through this network a daily and informal alternative to the traditional forums of academic debate.
The primary purpose of H-SKAND is to provide a forum for historians and other scholars to communicate openly. In this light, H-SKAND focuses particularly on research and teaching interests, new scholarship in the field, discussions of Scandinavian historiography, and the sharing of knowledge and experience about the teaching of Scandinavian history, including posting and discussion of course syllabi and reading lists.
In addition, H-SKAND welcomes announcements from scholarly and professional societies or other organizations about their journals, conferences, fellowships, and funding opportunities. We encourage organizers of conferences to send us detailed calls for papers and program contents. Graduate students are encouraged to publicize their work by sending in abstracts of their doctoral dissertations and research papers. H-SKAND is an appropriate forum for information on bibliographic and archival sources, as well as reports on new software, datasets or CD-ROMS relevant to Scandinavian history.
H-SKAND is edited to filter out extraneous messages (like requests for subscription) and items that do not belong on H-SKAND. Reasons for rejection of a posting might include its inappropriateness for this network or the editors' judgment that a post will not assist in the furthering of the scholarly dialogue. The editors will not alter the meaning of messages without the author's permission.
