Organized as a special event at the annual American Anthropological Association (AAA) meetings, the Anthropology of German Studies exists to facilitate discussions about a wide range of topics. GSN is pertinent for many reasons, including that:

  • An increasing number of anthropologists work in German-speaking countries.
  • The European Union and the process of 'unification' necessitates a dialogue between east and west specialists.
  • Changing research concerns accompany Germany's altered political environment.
  • The GSN network offers a space to exchange information about employment, funding and publications.
