Photographs by Anthony Galt

Anthony Galt (1944-2005) worked on the Island of Pantelleria, Italy in 1968-70 and 1974 and then returned for six months in 2003. Tony Galt later worked in the town of Locorotondo, Apulia, southern Italy during 1981-82, 1985, and intermittently thereafter. A graduate of U.C. Berkeley, Tony Galt’s remarkable fieldwork was documented in his ethnography, Town and Country in Locorotondo, published by Harcourt Brace College Publishers in 1992, as well as numerous research articles.  Tony Galt spent 34 years inspiring anthropology students in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and helped to found H-SAE as well as the Anthropology of Italy Network. He is warmly remembered by the SAE community for his generous mentorship and service. His photo collections are linked below.
