H-RURAL Discussion List

H-Rural is an Internet discussion list devoted to the topic of rural and agricultural history. Subscription is free, and subscribers will automatically receive messages in their computer mailboxes. Messages can be saved, discarded, copied, printed out, or relayed to someone else. It is like a daily newsletter or an ongoing, moderated "roundtable"discussion.

The primary purpose of H-Rural is to facilitate discussions about scholarship and teaching in rural and agricultural history. We welcome contributions such as conference announcements, calls for papers, course syllabi, conference reports, news of new datasets, and other items related to our focus, rural and agricultural history over time and place

H-Rural has an editorial board that decides policy for the discussion list and also assigns books for review as part of the H-Rural book review project.

H-Rural is moderated to filter out extraneous messages (like requests for subscription) and items that do not belong on H-Rural. They may belong somewhere else, or in the judgment of the moderators they do not aid the scholarly dialogue. The moderator will not alter the meaning of a message, but will, if necessary, add name and e-address and modify the subject line of a post.. H-Rural is co-moderated by Jim Oberly, Department of History, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and John Hannum, Department of Rural Sociology, University of Kentucky.
